In honor of Mother’s Day, we’d like to share some information with you about our Club’s work helping moms-to-be at the Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP). Our Club is wrapping up its third year of assisting HPP in providing diaper bags full of goodies to its pregnant clients or to new moms.

Typically, we meet on a Tuesday evening at Hoogasian Flowers on 7th Street, organizing and stuffing diaper bags. Each quarter, we’ve stuffed 50-65 bags. Our Club purchases the diaper bags, towels and health kits. Baby clothing, hats, wash clothes, and bibs are donated by a variety of other sources.

Two days later, Club members attend the Baby Showers held at HPP. The Baby Shower celebrates the finale of 12-week prenatal classes clients have attended. At the end of the party, clients receive our diaper bags full of supplies to care for their newborn.

Statistics of our work with HPP:

Number of Showers to date in Rotary Year 2018-19:
3 (and 1 more in June)

Number of Rotarians and friends who have participated:
At least 26

Number of diaper bags stuffed to date:
180

Number of homemade blankets crocheted by Susan Dean:
28!

I thoroughly enjoy our work with HPP because it provides a responsible outlet to give back to a vulnerable population in our community. As San Franciscans, we all encounter homeless families on a regular basis and wonder how we can help. Our support of HPP does exactly that!
