President Casey Blair (Financial Service: Private Trading | Feis Options) called the meeting to order. We had 39 Rotarians in attendance, including a visiting Rotarian from Virginia in San Francisco on a business trip. We also had five guests (some for the second or third time).

PRLS
Last week, another module of the Rotary Potential Rotary Leaders Seminars (“PRLS”) was offered. Three members of our Club attended: Dora Dye (Education: Community College | City College of San Francisco), Susan Dean (Health Care: Nursing Services | Retired), and John Dean (Education: Law | Dean Dispute Resolution).

Flying with the Foundation
On Sunday, October 13, over 100 Rotarians and their guests attended “Flying with The Foundation”, a fundraiser for the San Francisco Rotary Foundation. Those attending raised nearly $10,000 for the Foundation, which awards thousands of dollars annually to improve the daily lives of our neighbors. Projects funded by the Foundation include free health care to the uninsured and under-insured; leadership training for youth; and assistance to the homeless. The event was held in the private residence of the Consul General of Germany. Consul General Uli Sudbeck (Government Relations |  Federal Foreign Office, Berlin, Germany) and his husband Frank Vollbehr (Engineering, Architecture and Construction)–both Club members–opened their home adjacent to the German Consulate, and guests enjoyed an array of delicious foods, assorted beverages and a spectacular view of the amazing Blue Angels Fleet Week airshow. Thanks to Uli and Frank, to those Club members who served as event sponsors, and to those who volunteered to help at the event, including Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired), who led the committee; Irena Matijas (Real Estate: Sales | Compass);  Flora Burke (Financial Services: Advising | Merrill Lynch) and Flora’s daughter; John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates);  Bob Hermann (Information Technology: Administration | Retired); and Terry Pickering (Banking: Management | Retired). President Casey presented Uli and Frank with a gift certificate from Neeraj Miglani (Hospitality: Restaurants | Zingari Ristorante) to his Zingari Ristorante and a certificate for ice cream (which their two children will certainly enjoy).
