Several Club members have signed up for our service trip to Mfganano Island in Kenya, and some important details have been finalized:

  • The trip will take place November 27-December 2, 2019.
  • On World AIDS Day, December 1, we will be working in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mfangano Island to host a youth soccer tournament, health screenings and HIV/AIDS awareness activities.
It's not too late to join us!
The radio station is based on Mfganano Island, a remote island in Lake Victoria that is home to fishermen and farmers as well as the newly-chartered Rotary Club of Mbita-Mfangano.

Lily is leading a trip of Rotarians in November 2019 from California and Colorado to develop radio segments focusing on maternal and child health, and on HIV. Rotarians will also provide mentorship and enjoy fellowship with international Rotarians. No specific skills are required. The radio hosts will conduct interviews with Rotarians that will be translated into the local language for broadcast.

Rotarians will stay in local beach houses on the island with regular engagement with community members including eating local food and an optional fishing expedition. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking on the island.

The project requires four days on site. Additional travel can be added, including a safari for animal watching and/or a trip to coastal Kenya for relaxation on the gorgeous Indian Ocean. Exact dates and itinerary are flexible, depending on interest.

Families are welcome, but this trip is not for the feeble as travel is required in small boats and the accommodations on the island are rustic. Volunteers need to pay for all of their own travel expenses.
