Dr.  Andrew Gunther will review the basic physical principles and observations that have led every scientific academy in the world to conclude that human emissions of greenhouse gasses are altering the climate and that significant climatic changes are expected in the future. He will discuss what these changes mean for the country in general and the Bay Area in particular.

Dr. Gunther received his Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from the University of California at Berkeley in 1987, and has worked at the intersection of environmental science and policy since 1979. He served as Assistant Chief Scientist for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Restoration Program, and is the founder and Executive Director of the non-profit Center for Ecosystem Management and Restoration in Oakland.

Andy currently serves as the Executive Coordinator of the Bay Area Ecosystems Climate Change Consortium. The Consortium was established in 2009 to assess the impact of climate change on Bay Area ecosystems, and identify actions that will preserve the benefits we derive from these ecosystems in the face of ongoing climate change.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Concerned Scientists, and a scientific advisor to the Alliance for Climate Education and The Regeneration Project.
