In September 2004, then Mayor Gavin Newsom appointed Jose Cisneros as Treasurer for the City and County of San Francisco. Prior to this appointment, Treasurer Cisneros served as Deputy General Manager for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and managed MUNI’s capital program to repair, replace, and enhance system assets – including the 3rd Street rail extension that will serve Chinatown, Mission Bay, and the residents of Bay View and Hunters Point.

Treasurer Cisneros believes that his role of safeguarding the City’s money extends to all San Francisco residents. In January 2005, he implemented the Working Families Credit Program to provide a tax credit to qualified San Francisco families.

Treasurer Cisneros previously worked as an assistant vice president at the Bank of Boston and as a senior international product manager for IBM and Lotus Development Corporation. He received his Bachelor of Science from Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and studied for an MBA at Boston University.

At our meeting, Treasurer Cisneros will discuss how business taxes work and have changed with new tax regulations, how The Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector enforces taxes, and recent innovations and enhancements he and his Office have implemented to facilitate tax compliance and collection.
