If you have watched the movie Miss Congeniality, you probably have your own idea of what a pageant is. The Miss America Organization (MAO) is very different than the movie Miss Congeniality and another other pageant system that exists. MAO is the largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women in the United States. Jessa Carmack, Miss California 2016, will introduce you to the Miss America, Miss California and Miss San Francisco Organizations along with what it is like to compete in the organization and what the life of a titleholder consists of.

Jessa Carmack was crowned Miss California 2016 with the Miss America Organization in July 2016. In September she represented the Golden State when she competed for the title of Miss America 2017 where she placed in the Top 10 and was featured on the live ABC Television Network telecast. The 2017 Miss America competition cycle began with 8,000 young women across the country including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In 2011, Jessa served as Miss California’s Outstanding Teen where she also went on to compete at the national level at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen and was selected as a Top 15 finalist.

Jessa is a Santa Clara native and is a early graduate of San Jose State University with a degree in public relations and a minor in communication studies. She is a former San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush cheerleader and brand ambassador of four seasons. Jessa has been an advocate for “Building a Healthy Future,” instilling a healthy lifestyle in the youth since she was 15-years-old. She has toured numerous schools, day cares and youth programs speaking about healthy habits and its benefits. She is also a substitute teacher with the Santa Clara Unified School District.
