LUNCHEON MEETING MINUTES June 11, 2019: Astronomy
President Rhonda Poppen (Grant Writing | GRANTdog) welcomed members and a number of guests and visiting Rotarians to the meeting. She presented a series of photographs submitted by Club members who attended the recent Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany. Stephanie Schmautz (Elder Care and Senior Services | The Carlisle) reported that the convention was a wonderful experience, and noted that many Club members are still in Europe, having added post-convention trips. Rhonda urged members to begin thinking about next year’s convention, slated for June 6-10, 2020 in Honolulu. Earlybird registration, with substantial discounts, closes soon. Check the Rotary International website for registration details, and hotel deals.

Report from HPP: June 11 & 13, 2019
On June 13, approximately 20 mothers-to-be attended the morning shower (for Spanish-speaking moms) and 11 attended the afternoon (English-speaking) shower. Two moms delivered last week and two more went into labor on the morning of the showers... so attendance was impacted!

ROTARY LUNCHEON July 16, 2019: Sheri Greenawald, Merola Opera
Sheri Greenawald, artistic director of the Merola Opera Program, will provide a behind-the-scenes discussion of what it takes to become an opera star. She will talk about some of the rising opera stars and their upcoming performances, the kinds of challenges top opera performers face, and the technical issues that are at play in certain operas. Her presentation will conclude with a vocal lesson.
 
Rotaplast Bocce Ball Tournament and BBQ: July 21, 2019
Bring smiles to children around the world by participating in (or supporting) this annual fundraiser in San Rafael. This tournament benefits Rotaplast.

In her talk, The Science Behind Living Better Longer, Azar Asadi Shahmirzadi will talk about the work she is doing at the Buck Institute, and how it is impacting the field of aging research along with other work the Buck is doing.
