Prior to joining Thomson Reuters\, Sharon s erved as director of Community Relations and Corporate Philanthropy at GM AC Financial Services. While at GMAC\, she co-founded a nationwide forecl osure prevention program. Sharon Sayles Belton served as mayor of Min neapolis\, MN\, from 1994 to 2001. She was the first woman and first Afri can American to be elected mayor. During her time in office\, she achieve d national recognition as an expert on public/private partnerships in pub lic safety\, neighborhood revitalization and economic development. She se rved on the Minneapolis City Council for 10 years (1984-1994) and was cou ncil president from 1990-1994.
