Mayor Edwin M. Lee appointed Mr. Kositsky t o be the first director of the HSH when he announced the creation of the department. Leading with\, “Compassion\, Common-Sense and Courage”\, Dire ctor Kositsky is responsible for driving San Francisco’s homeless respons e system that seeks to make homelessness in San Francisco\, rare\, brief and one-time. Since launching\, HSH has worked to quickly develop a five- year strategic framework that outlines a bold vision for making significa nt and sustained reductions to homelessness over time\, while ending home lessness for thousands of individuals and families\, providing shelter to approximately 14\,000 individuals and preventing homelessness for 6\,500 households. HSH did this while expanding proven programs and reforming s ystems to improve outcomes for people in crisis\, our non-profit partners and the City as a whole as it is better able to manage the system. HSH h as also worked to implement Coordinated Entry across the Homelessness Res ponse System to ensure that the most vulnerable individuals and household s are prioritized for housing. Jeff Kositsky is a nationally recognized l eader in innovative homeless services and has over 20 years of experience managing nonprofit organizations in San Francisco. He has served on seve ral nonprofit boards\, including San Francisco’s Coalition on Homelessnes s and the Treasure Island Development Authority Board of Directors. Curre ntly\, Mr. Kositsky sits on the National Alliance to End Homelessness’ Le adership Council. Mr. Kositsky holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics a nd International Relations from American University in Washington\, DC an d a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Aus tin’s Lyndon B.
