President JT Harold Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM and led us virtually to the Empire Room at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Today marked the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote. Today was also Bad Poetry Day. President JT commented on the heat wave in the Bay Area and then shared today's agenda.
 
San Francisco-Marin Food Bank
Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired) talked about the $10,000 grant from the San Francisco Rotary Foundation that was matched dollar for dollar, creating a total donation of $20,000 to the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. Maureen O'Shea (Governmental Relations | Retired) presented the $20,000 to Diane Stark (pictured) of the Food Bank. Allan Herzog (Financial Services:  Advising | Wells Fargo Advisors) joined in and offered an additional $1,000 if 10 people in today's audience would match his donation at $100 each. More than 10 people came forward to create a more than $2,000 donation to the SF-Marin Food Bank. Diane thanked the Foundation and the generous members for the donations.
 
The 19th Amendment
Thanks to Cecile Chiquette (Accounting | Fiduciary Administration) for coordinating a presentation to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. President-elect Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | Vanguard Properties/JM Real Estate Group) shared a video on the women's suffrage movement. Maureen O'Shea offered her personal view and acknowledged Club member Janine Padilla (Real Estate: Sales | Astral Management) for starting a Committee to end human trafficking. Jessica Hansen (pictured) (Nonprofit Management | Alliance for Smiles) talked about the contributions of women and mentioned the good poetry of Maya Angelou. Emily Borland (Engineering, Architecture, and Construction | Emily Borland Specifications) emphasized the importance of voting today, especially the ability of every American to vote by mail.
 
$20 for Twenty Seconds
Those pledging today included: 
  • John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates) for the birth of his eighth grandchild.
  • Jianying Chen (Healthcare: Acupuncture | American Institute of Zhizhen Therapy and New Qigong) in recognition of the past turmoil in his homeland and now the crisis in the U.S.
  • Miranti Ojong (Financial Services: Advising | Team Armada) in celebration of her fortieth birthday.
  • Alex Omoko (Human Services | Geo Re-Entry Services) to apologize for not appearing at SF-Marin Food Bank this past Saturday due to an emergency.
  • David Dye (Management Consulting | Retired) for Miranti's fortieth birthday. David is Miranti's mentor in the Club.
  • Lisa Stark (Communications and Media) to celebrate her son's admission into law school in Arizona.
  • Bob Hermann (Information Technology: Administration | Retired) in recognition of those members who volunteered recently in community service projects.
Guest Speaker
Michael Petricca (Education Management | Academy of Art) introduced today's speaker, Brian Herbert, Vice President of Security at the Chase Center, who discussed the present status of the Center and when entertainment and sports might return. Attending this meeting along with Brian were a few members of his staff. Brian compared our Club's generosity to that of the Warriors.
 
Lena Dokuchayeva (Development | Vereschagin Law) won today's door prize, which was a $10 Safeway gift card.
 
Before adjourning, the Club recognized past president Jimmie Jeffery in the audience.
 
After the meeting ended, many stayed to sing Happy Birthday to Miranti.
