President JT Harold Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) celebrated the return of college football and his favorite team, the Auburn Tigers, from his alma mater of Auburn University in Alabama. He led us virtually to Jordan-Hare Stadium for today's luncheon. Today's guests included Salvador Farfan (a former Rotarian from Long Beach, CA) and John King (today's speaker).
 
Member Moment
Club Member Jyoti Chokshi (Management Services | Talent Anywhere) talked about her journey in life starting in Delhi, India to England and then to the San Francisco Bay Area. Jyoti also shared stories about her career. She joined Rotary, because Rotary gave her the opportunity to meet like-minded people.
 
Rotary Moment
President JT showed a video depicting San Francisco's Market Street around 1906 and then segwayed into the founding of our Club and our founder, Homer Wood. He recognized our Club's Homer Wood Fellows that included:

New Member Induction
President JT and our Vice President of Membership Terry Pickering (Financial Services | Retired) inducted our newest member, Liam Sheridan (Sales: E-Commerce | Salesforce). Liam grew up in the Niles District in Fremont, CA and recently returned to this area. He is excited to become involved in the activities of our Club.
 
$20 for Twenty Seconds
Those pledging today included: 
  • President-elect Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group | Vanguard Properties) for adopting her new dog named Teddy. You can vote for Teddy at the Alliance for Smiles Pet Project.​​​​​​
  • Bill Poppen (Banking: Management | MUFG Union Bank) who donated $100 to celebrate today's air quality index at finally a good level.
  • Rhonda Poppen (Grant Writing | GRANTdog) who donated $100 to celebrate the recovery of her parents from COVID-19 and that her father can breathe on his own without the help of an oxygen tube.
  • Kaushal Chokshi (Management Consulting | Scaale Inc.) who donated $100 to celebrate his wife Jyoti's "Member Moment" today.
  • John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates) who donated $20 to recognize and thank Eric Schmautz (Banking: Management | Wells Fargo) for securing the required signatures on a past global grant. Joining John in recognizing Eric were immediate past president Casey Blair (Financial Services: Private Trading | KCB Trading, LLC) and President JT.
  • Anita Stangl (Medical Services | Alliance for Smiles) to celebrate a letter she recently received from a former student thanking her for making a difference. Anita recognized all teachers today trying to teach via distance learning.
Guest Speaker
Vice President of Development Christopher Wiseman (Event Planning | Glaucoma Research Foundation) introduced today's speaker, John King. John has been The San Francisco Chronicle's urban design critic since 2001. During his talk, he shared photos of San Francisco of years past and today, discussed the concerns portrayed in these photos, and speculated on what changes might come next. President JT thanked John and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in his name.
 
Door Prize
Today's door prize was a $10 Safeway gift card donated by Vice President of Community Service Bob Hermann (Information Technology: Administration | Retired). The winner was Treasurer Gary Dales (Accounting | Fly Leasing).
