Our Club has been blessed to have Eugene (Gene) Lee (Consulting-Technical Management, Retired) as a member for the past 42 years. He loved life and loved being a Rotarian. When he was no longer able to attend Rotary luncheons and events, members of our Club would visit him. During these visits, Gene would sometimes write a donation check or give bottles of wine to be used as a raffle or auction item. This way he was always part of us at our gatherings.

When I visited Gene, he loved to reminisce about Rotary. His favorite anecdotes described his involvement in our annual World Wide Rotary Day. Year after year, Gene visited each consulate in San Francisco to deliver personal invitations to the consuls general. He was very proud of the Rotarian of the Month crystal award that he received as recognition for his efforts in supporting this event.

The last time I visited Gene on January 12, 2018, he was preparing to move back to Turlock to be closer to his extended family. Before I left, Gene gave me a $100 check as a donation to Rotary Service. He also gave me a few bottles of wine to toast him at our next luncheon.

Gene died on April 5, 2018 in Turlock. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanne Marie, and 13 nieces and nephews. Gene asked that we remember him with donations to our favorite charities.

Our Club has lost a true Rotarian, but our lives are better and richer for having known Gene. For more information on Gene's life:
