On a rainy day, a small group of Rotarians ventured out to attend the Tuesday luncheon. Joining them was another group of Rotarians on Zoom. President Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group) called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM and introduced Jessie Austin of the Academy of Art University. Jessie now manages the audio-visual equipment during our in-person meetings, and we are truly grateful.

Jim Patrick (Retail: Office Supplies | Patrick & Co.), our Club's TRF Chair, invited everyone to attend The Rotary Foundation Gala sponsored by Rotary District 5150 on November 20, 2021. Finally . . . a chance to dress up and celebrate! To register, go here. Kevin Leong, representing our Club’s Development Committee, announced that it is the time of year when many of us who possess an IRA or other investments that have a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) consider directing their RMD to the Rotary Club of San Francisco, or the San Francisco Rotary Foundation. This is a "tax free" gift. The San Francisco Rotary Foundation is a qualified charity that transforms our donations into "service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world"; he encouraged those who can to donate generously.

New Master PRLS Graduates
On Saturday, November 6, 2021, Bob Hermann (Information Technology: Administration | Retired UCSF) and Christopher Wiseman (Event Planning | Glaucoma Research Foundation) completed Master PRLS 5 and graduated from the series. Both received an impressive Master PRLS pin and a book by Dale Carnegie. Congratulations to both! For those of you who are not familiar with PRLS, PRLS stands for Potential Rotary Leaders Seminars. It is a series of courses designed by Rotarians Betsy Koefoed, Bill Koefoed, and Michael Ford to teach Rotarians skills and techniques as they prepare to assume leadership roles in their Clubs.

John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates) on behalf of the San Francisco Rotary Foundation awarded a grant in the amount of $3,000 to Huckleberry Youth Programs to continue their work with trafficked youth. Accepting the check was Carly Devlin who was also our featured speaker today. Joining John on the podium was Bob Hermann (Vice President of Community Service).

Andrés Vera donated to thank all who sent notes of sympathy and support on the death of his father. Andrés also celebrated going to New York City recently.
Guest Speaker
JP Padilla (Event Planning) introduced today's speaker - Carly Devlin. Carly has worked for Huckleberry Youth Programs since February of 2016. She has led Huckleberry Advocacy and Response Team (HART), Huckleberry's program for youth experiencing commercial sexual exploitation, since its inception. Carly discussed situations involving youth who lack "connectedness". With a lack of connectedness, the push and pull to survive create a crisis. The crisis is exacerbated with the youth’s need to have a sustainable lifestyle.President Mary thanked Carly and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in her name.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
