ROTARY CLUB OF SAN FRANCISCO
 
The Board of the Rotary Club of San Francisco met on October 29, 2019; a quorum was present. In addition to the Board, Club members Bob Hermann and Stephanie Schmautz were in attendance.
 
President Casey requested that any auction items or sponsorships for the Action Leadership Program for Students (ALPS) be sent to Maureen O’Shea.

The date to assemble the survival kits with Catholic Charities will be January 30, 2020.
     
    The Board reviewed and approved the minutes for September 24, 2019 prepared by Dora Dye.

    Gary Dales presented the Treasurer’s Report. He discussed the September 2019 balance sheet and compared it to the budget. The Board approved the Treasurer's Report. The Board agreed to discuss outstanding dues outside of this meeting.
     
    Dan Joraanstad talked about holding a “Welcome to the Club” gathering once each quarter and asked for a date to hold the next such gathering. The Board decided on January 23, 2020 at a location to be determined for the next gathering.
     
    Next, Dan discussed membership changes and introduced the candidates who wish to join our Club: Valentina Beccarini Sacchi, Christopher Eggers, Miranti Ojong, Ravinder Sehgal, Ed Shenkan, and Tricia Tran; the Board approved all six candidates. JT Forbus commented on a membership discussion at PETS where other clubs were concerned about membership while our Club has no such problem. The Board agreed to hold a membership induction on November 12, 2019 and on December 10, 2019.

    Sacha Shashi talked about timing the departure of the freight ship and the arrival of the participants in the Water Project. He told participants to hold off purchasing flights until he could determine when the ship departs. 

    John Mathers asked the Board if we would support moving forward with a Climate Action Team to promote concerns involving climate change to other Rotary clubs, and the Board approved.

    The Board welcomed Mary Liu as Vice President of Vocational Service. Mary shared her vision and ideas for adding vocational service to our Club.

    Dora shared a new idea that would appear in the October 30, 2019 issue of Grindings using photos to tell a story and inviting members to share their photos with her. She agreed to write an announcement for president Casey to present at the next luncheon.

    JT reported that the Nominating Committee was on target and moving forward with finding candidates for the incoming Board.

    Bebo White communicated to president Casey that Golden Gate Park turns 150 years old on April 4, 2020 and suggested that our Club participate in the celebration as well as promote Rotary on this day, all of which our Board approved.

    The Board of the Rotary Service, Inc. met on October 29, 2019; a quorum was present. In addition to the Board, Bob Hermann and Stephanie Schmautz, both members of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, were in attendance.
     
    The Board reviewed and approved the minutes for September 24, 2019 prepared by Dora Dye.
     
    Gary Dales presented the financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2019, the balance sheet as of September 30, 2019, and the Statement of Activity for the three months then ended. The Board approved the Treasurer’s Report, budget, and the financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2019.
     
    The Board discussed whether to include RI President Mark Maloney in our next Worldwide Rotary Day. The Board also discussed when to hold Worldwide Rotary Day in 2020. Sacha Shashi and Christopher Wiseman will strategize Worldwide Rotary Day. 
     
    Stephanie Schmautz requested funding to pay for a jazz quartet at the 2019 Holiday Party. She announced that other fun activities at the Party would be a wine toss and a photo booth. The Board approved up to $800 to cover the cost of a jazz quartet at the 2019 Holiday Party.
