The Boards of the Rotary Club of San Francisco and Rotary Service met for a day-long retreat on Saturday, March 2. Those who are going off the board, those who are coming on to the board, and those who are staying on the board after June 30 all participated.

The retreat was facilitated by Past President John Mathers, who started things off by presenting the results of the recent member survey:

  • 50 Club members responded to the survey.
  • All five of the areas explored by the survey were rated between 4 and 5 (out of a possible 5); all five scores were higher than last year’s scores.
  • “Is the Club moving in the right direction?” was rated at nearly a perfect 5.

Much of the discussion was focused on how to transition responsibilities and activities from 2018-19 board members to 2019-20 board members. A few important decisions were made:

  • We adopted a streamlined process for grant applications for the 2019-20 year. The key take-away from that process is that if you have an idea for a project, then you must reach out now to the appropriate Vice President (Local Community Service, International Service, Youth Leadership) if you haven’t already done so. All grant applications must be submitted to the Vice Presidents by April 15.
  • We adopted a standard set of guidelines for membership in and operation of our service committees.
  • We agreed to hold a "Club Visioning" event soon, to better understand our rapidly growing membership’s interests, priorities, and issues.
A more comprehensive report on these and other discussion points from the retreat will be the focus of the annual Club Assembly at our April 2 luncheon meeting.

Thank you to John Mathers, for his great leadership as facilitator, and to Lynn Luckow for providing his comfortable and attractive meeting space.
