Become an ALPS Leadership Coach

The Action Leadership Program with Students (ALPS) is our Club’s newest, innovative youth leadership program created to serve the young people of our community and encourage opportunities for multigenerational leadership. We need Rotarians to join us as leadership coaches and content experts to:
  • build their own leadership and project facilitation skills.
  • guide high schoolers in cultivating their own leadership potential.
  • create impacts or give back to their local communities through service.
  • learn more about the different communities that exist within the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • get out of their comfort zone and expand their world view.

An Update on the Roots of Peace/Vietnam Global Grant
On September 15, 2020, the Club thanked Past Club President and Past District Governor Eric Schmautz for securing the required signatures for a past global grant. On October 20, 2020, Past Club President John Mathers called for Rotarians to give generously to help the village in Vietnam that was part of our recent global grant. In both cases, the Grant referenced was the one authorized during Rotary year 2017-18 to support Roots of Peace in its efforts to replace minefields with peppercorn vines to spur the economy in Vietnam.

E-MEETING Highlights for November 10, 2020: Jessica Hansen and Ethical, Sustainable Travel during COVID-19 and Beyond
In today's meeting, President JT Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) was dressed as Neo of the Matrix movie series, choosing between the red pill and the blue pill. He welcomed members, visiting Rotarians, and guests and led us virtually to the Four Seasons Total Landscaping. (Note: One of the advantages of virtual meetings is that we can meet in any location.)

Save the Date - February 4, 2021: Action Leadership Program with Students: Fund the Future Gala
At Rotary, we’ve strived to serve the youth in our community for many years, and we feel now is the time more than ever to invest in our youth to become leaders in our community and world. As we reflect on our world today, we can understand how imperative it is for the younger generation to have the leadership skills to become the best version of themselves. 

To achieve this end, the Rotary Club of San Francisco and the San Francisco Rotary Foundation provided $50,000 in seed funding to launch a year-round leadership program for high school youth in San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties. The Action Leadership Program with Students (ALPS) was successfully launched in 2019 and has since developed a framework that adapts to the needs and resources of students all over the Bay Area.

SERVICE PROJECT November 16, 2020:  Delivering Meals for The Arc San Francisco
Drivers needed to pick up pre-packaged meals at The Arc San Francisco and deliver to individual residences of Arc participants who are experiencing food insecurity. Exact directions will be provided when you pick up the meals. Hand delivery of meals must occur between 4 PM and 5:30 PM in advance of the Monday Night Dinner Club with Friends Like Me via Zoom to be held on the first and third Monday of each month.
 
E-MEETING November 17, 2020:  A Day of Thanks
Join us as we spend time with each other reflecting on events, projects or people that have made us thankful during such an extraordinary year.  Advanced registration required. Connection instructions will be provided immediately to all who register.
 
SERVICE PROJECT November 17, 2020: Diaper Bag Assembly for Homeless Prenatal Program
Join us at this service opportunity to stuff diaper bags and organize diapers and wipes for giveaway to clients of the Homeless Prenatal Program. We will meet at an open-air warehouse to allow social distancing while stuffing the bags and organizing the goods. Participation is limited to NINE people, so sign up early.

Looking for holiday entertaining ideas? Join Past President Anita Stangl as she shares food and table decorating ideas to create a most memorable gathering. Advanced registration required. Connection instructions will be provided to all who register.
 
ROTARY CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK November 19, 2020: Dr. Karina Nielsen, Blue Carbon: Ocean Climate Connections and Blue Solutions
The ocean has served as an enormous climate change buffer, slowing the pace of change, but the ocean itself is changing as a result. Dr. Karina Nielsen, Ph.D., will provide an overview of ocean and coastal climate issues as well as potential solutions. Advanced registration required. TRAINING November 21, 2020: ALPS Adult Facilitator Training
Join the Action Leadership Program with Students (ALPS) for virtual adult facilitation training! The training will be limited to EIGHT individuals. 
E-MEETING December 1, 2020:  Dr. Jennifer Scarlett and the Union Square Holiday Windows
Dr. Jennifer Scarlett discusses how the San Francisco SPCA is pivoting to continue its lifesaving work during this unique holiday season and beyond. Since 1987, the San Francisco SPCA has been filling the Union Square holiday windows with adoptable animals. Holiday Windows will continue this year, but it will look different because of COVID-19. Advanced registration required. Connection instructions will be provided immediately to all who register.
 
SERVICE PROJECT December 5, 2020:  Volunteering at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank
Join us to assemble and package food for distribution at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. The need for volunteers at the Food Bank has never been greater with the increased food insecurities in our community caused by COVID-19. Advanced registration is required.

Katherine (Katy) Weinstein Miller, Chief Probation Officer, shares how San Francisco's Juvenile Probation Department is re-thinking the ways to prevent and respond to juvenile crime and delinquency.
