About 25 members, prospective members, and Club Leaders packed the office of Lynn Luckow for the Quarterly meet-and-greet on August 15, 2018. There was an abundance of food and drink, and most important, goodwill and camaraderie to start the evening.
We welcomed the following guests: Brenda Kahler and Tom Bondi from the local accounting firm of Armanino; Larry Meek from the 49er Rotary Club of Nevada City, CA; Angelita Cabrera; Jean Rosenblum who was past president of her Colorado Rotary Club; Sarah Cummings from Robert Half; as well as Denise Evans and Lily Nhep from the local Capital One Café.
President Rhonda told us that today's program would focus on the impact our work with the Homeless Prenatal Project has on its clients.
On Saturday, August 11, Phyllis Nusz, Frank Yoke, and I joined about 50 other Rotarians at a District 5150 Learning and Development Opportunity about The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International (TRF). The presentation focused on the wonderful work our foundation does around the world, including tools to educate and inspire us all.
Manuel Mollinedo is the former director of several zoos, including the San Francisco Zoo. Manuel will talk about how accredited zoos have helped to protect endangered species. At the turn of the last century, the Bronx Zoo helped to prevent the extinction of the American Bison. More recently, the LA Zoo started working to save California Condors. Hear these and other interesting stories on how zoos help to save endangered species.

Leonard Kuhi, Professor Emeritus of Astronomy, will take us through the various stages of a star's life from its formation in interstellar clouds to its ultimate demise. Photos from the Hubble Space Telescope will illustrate these different stages.
Attorney John D. O'Connor will speak to us about parallels and contrasts between Watergate and current issues, including the "Russian Collusion" investigation and James Comey's actions both before and after the 2016 election. John is a former federal prosecutor in San Francisco during the Watergate era and the Carter Administration, and was a colleague of current Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Get a little muddy and help Sutro Stewards weed and restore Rotary Meadow - a garden of native plants our Club planted at the summit of Mount Sutro in 2004. Friends and family (including children ten and older) are welcome. After all the work is done, we'll enjoy pizza, beer, and fellowship.

Randy Arnold of Barefoot Winery will bring news and views of the wine industry and speak to concerns about the quality of wine coming out of Napa and Sonoma after the terrible fires of fall 2017. Randy has deep experience in the wine industry and has been the marketing manager at Barefoot Winery since the late 1980’s at a time when Worthy Cause marketing went from a philosophy to a strategy.
