Today is the sixth annual World Polio Day, celebrating the progress we've made towards Polio eradication - and acknowledging the need to continue the effort until the job is done.
When Rotary International committed to Polio eradication over 30 years ago, the world saw 1,000 new cases of Polio every day. There have only been 20 cases so far this calendar year. We are "this close" but we need to get to "zero".
Join us at the Golden Gate Tap Room for a no-host fellowship event. Costumes encouraged. The Golden Gate Tap Room offers a variety of beverages and games. This event is open to all members and their guests, including prospective members.
Past District Governor Russ Ketron, a Polio survivor, will give us an update on the End Polio Now campaign and other key activities of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International (TRF).
Club member Rick Harrell will lead a group of performers, including Veterans, in a selection of songs and poetry that recognize the challenges and contributions made by our Veterans. This is sure to be an inspiring event.
The annual Thanksgiving Luncheon at The Arc of San Francisco is one of our most popular service projects. Come early to help prepare and serve lunch to hundreds of clients of The Arc: all people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. And stay long enough to enjoy that same lunch with your fellow Rotarians. This is the only Thanksgiving celebration for many of the people we serve that day. And they are most appreciative.
Join your fellow Rotarians and friends for an ugly holiday sweater and white elephant gift exchange potluck. Prizes will be given for the ugliest holiday sweaters. This is a great opportunity to socialize with your fellow Rotarians and meet other members of our Club.
