The journey in Potential Rotary Leaders Seminars (PRLS) for Dora Dye and Susan Dean began in July 2019 when both took Basic PRLS. Next, they completed Master PRLS Courses 3, 4, 1, and 2. On Saturday, November 21, 2020, both Dora and Susan completed Master PRLS 5 and graduated from the series. Both received an impressive Master PRLS pin and a book by Dale Carnegie. Congratulations to both! For those of you who are not familiar with PRLS, it is a series of courses designed by Rotarians Betsy Koefoed, Bill Koefoed, and Michael Ford to teach Rotarians skills and techniques as they prepare to assume leadership roles in their Clubs.
Kudos to Eric Schmautz for bringing Thanksgiving to The Arc San Francisco despite the challenges caused by COVID-19. A full story about this year's meal and celebration along with mention of those involved to make this event happen will be published in the December 6, 2020 issue of Grindings.

This past summer Emergency Medicine doctors from San Francisco hospitals came together to paint a mural recognizing our patients and community during the challenging times caused by the global pandemic. On the outside wall of Zuni's Cafe on Market and Gough Streets, you will see a mural painted by ER doctors. I, too, was lucky to participate in this event.
"Over the past months, many caregivers and providers of health care witnessed the hardships that COVID-19 had on the health and well-being of our most underserved patients and families. Despite these hardships, we as emergency physicians experienced the incredible strength and resilience of our community in banding together - to shelter in place when possible, to make meals and provide groceries and food for our families, to provide public transportation to our essential workers, and so much more.
President JT Forbus called the Board meeting via Zoom to order at 4:04 p.m. on October 27, 2020. The entire Board was present. Also in attendance was past president Rhonda Poppen.

A Rotary Talent Survey was sent out two weeks ago, and we encourage all members to take a few minutes to complete the survey. An average response has taken 3 minutes.
The objective of the Rotary Talent Survey is to help gather relevant information to connect you with committee and project leaders so that you can be involved in projects that align with your interests. The survey asks questions to identify your interests and to determine how your skill set can be used to support the Club.
We highly recommend that EVERY member complete this survey. Please reach out to Sunny Singh if you have any questions about the survey.
At the Annual Holiday Party in years past, members of our Club and guests donated unwrapped, new toys to the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Drive. This year we cannot bring our toys to the party, but the need is even more dire. Due to the pandemic and its effect on jobs and incomes, some children may not get a toy at all this holiday season. Here is how we can help by going online and following these steps:
Dr. Jennifer Scarlett discusses how the San Francisco SPCA is pivoting to continue its lifesaving work during this unique holiday season and beyond. Since 1987, the San Francisco SPCA has been filling the Union Square holiday windows with adoptable animals. Holiday Windows will continue this year, but it will look different because of COVID-19. Advanced registration required. Connection instructions will be provided immediately to all who register.
Join us to assemble and package food for distribution at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. The need for volunteers at the Food Bank has never been greater with the increased food insecurities in our community caused by COVID-19. Advanced registration is required.
Drivers needed to pick up pre-packaged meals at The Arc San Francisco and deliver to individual residences of Arc participants who are experiencing food insecurity. Exact directions will be provided when you pick up the meals. Hand delivery of meals must occur between 4 PM and 5:30 PM in advance of the Monday Night Dinner Club with Friends Like Me via Zoom to be held on the first and third Monday of each month.
Juvenile justice is a critical piece of the justice reform conversations taking place across the country and is at a pivotal point here in San Francisco. Katherine (Katy) Weinstein Miller, Chief Probation Officer, shares how San Francisco's Juvenile Probation Department is re-thinking the ways to prevent and respond to juvenile crime and delinquency. Advanced registration required. Connection instructions will be provided immediately to all who register.
Join the Ending Human Trafficking Committee for a short 30-minute presentation to learn more about Safehouse in San Francisco and our service project opportunities. Safehouse’s Executive Director Toni Eby will be the speaker. Advanced registration required. Connection instructions will be provided to all who register as the date gets closer.
Join us at our Annual Meeting and Virtual Holiday Party, where we will celebrate our Club's 112th Anniversary! Bring your family, friends, and business associates to enjoy this most festive and fun-filled event of the year.
We are not meeting on December 22 and December 29. In addition, Grindings will not be published on December 20, but publication will resume on December 27.
We wish you good health and all the best during the holidays and throughout the new year.
