BOARD MEMBER PROFILE: John Dean
John Dean, who will join the Rotary Club of San Francisco Board on July 1 as Vice President of Public Relations, calls himself “a Bay Area lifer.” Born in Oakland, he grew up in the East Bay and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, where he met his wife, Susan, who is also a member of the Club. While Susan finished her nursing degree, John earned a law degree at UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, then opened a law office in Oakland where he lived out his dream as a criminal defense attorney. Under the mentorship of several experienced trial attorneys, he was able to get “a lot of very practical experience in state and federal courts in Northern California.”

Our Club Shines at the Rotary 4-Way Fest
This year’s annual District 5150 Conference was held in Reno, Nevada on May 17-19, 2019 along with three other Rotary districts; hence, it was called the Rotary 4-Way Fest and brought in over 800 attendees. Our Club was well represented at the Conference by Cecile Chiquette, Jeanne-Marie Cresalia, David and Dora Dye, Laine Hendricks, Heidi Kuhn, Mary Liu, Lynn Luckow, Donna-Lee Rubin, Eric and Stephanie Schmautz and their daughters, Molly and Katie, and Anita Stangl.

Diaper Bag Assembly for Homeless Prenatal Program: June 11, 2019
Join us at this service opportunity where Club members and guests will stuff diaper bags with the supplies new moms need to help care for their babies. The bags will be distributed to pregnant women involved in Prenatal Classes at the Homeless Prenatal Project. Afterwards, we'll walk down the block to Mars Bar and Restaurant for food, fellowship, and fun.
 
Baby Showers for Homeless Prenatal Program: June 13, 2019
Join us at one or both of the Baby Showers at the Homeless Prenatal Program where we will give expectant mothers diaper bags filled with supplies. The party for Spanish speakers starts at 10:30 AM; the party for English speakers starts at 1:00 PM.
 
 
Rotary Twilight Golf: June 13, 2019
Join The Rotary Club of San Francisco for a friendly round of golf and a chance to win our coveted Golf Trophy! Points are based on participation, not necessarily golf score, so all skill levels are welcome! Fellowship follows every outing. Tee time is 4:15.
Dinner Club at The Arc: June 17, 2019
Enjoy the opportunity to make dinner and share it with new friends at The Arc. Rotarians are invited to join the fun at one dinner a month: come once, or make it a regular commitment! Open to family and friends who are over 17.

Heroes' Voices - The Soldier's Journey: June 23, 2019
An afternoon of poetry and music exploring a variety of perspectives on war, peace and soldiers’ experiences before, during and after battle. This performance, at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, is the West Coast awards celebration for the Heroes’ Voices National Veterans Poetry Contest. Free tickets include the reception after the performance. Volunteers are needed to help with setup, ushering, and more.
