LUNCHEON MEETING MINUTES October 1, 2019: Fire Chief Nicholson
President Casey Blair (Financial Services: Private Trading | Feis Options) began the meeting by welcoming a visiting Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Palo Alto University, who is checking which Rotary Clubs in San Francisco are potential fits for his son.

Change in Communications Personnel
Scott Plakun has been the editor of Grindings and our webmaster for over four years. Having held the ultimate job in the Club – that of president in 2009-2010, Scott did not have to do any more, but he saw the need and stepped up to serve in Club communications and on the Board again. By the time you read this, Scott will have stepped down to pursue other Rotary projects. We would like to take this moment to thank Scott wholeheartedly for his dedication and non-stop work during his tenure. Every week no matter where he was, he would have to carve out some time to work on our communication tools. Says president Casey Blair, "It's impossible to tally the numerous ways Scott has touched so many aspects of the Club in a positive way."

Bike & Hike to End Polio Now
District 5150 held a Bike & Hike to End Polio on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Point Reyes National Seashore. Rotarians from all over the District and even non-Rotarians met at the Bear Valley Picnic Area to check in and then either choose a trail to hike or participate in the 33-mile supported bike ride on public roads through the rolling hills of West Marin. No matter what you chose, you got a great workout.

Jennie Scholick, PhD, Associate Director of Audience Development at the San Francisco Ballet, will discuss the upcoming season, focusing on three new works: Cathy Marston’s world premiere, Trey McIntyre’s The Big Hunger, and Alexei Ratmansky’s The Seasons.

John Mathers, 2017-18 President, will offer a brief training to new and prospective members immediately following the regular luncheon meeting. The training will last about 30 minutes. Whether you are new or returning, everyone is welcome!
 
SERVICE PROJECT October 19, 2019:  Aquatic Park Clean-up
Join the Aquatic Park Stewards to clean up Aquatic Park. We will pick up debris such as cigarette butts, plastic, and other trash, and catalog the trash. After the clean-up, we will walk to Capurro's for food, fellowship, and fun.
 
Dinner Club at The Arc: October 21, 2019
Enjoy the opportunity to make dinner and share it with new friends at The Arc. Rotarians are invited to join the fun at one dinner a month: come once, or make it a regular commitment! Open to family and friends who are over 17.
 
CLUB SOCIAL October 21, 2019:  Dinner and Movie
Treat yourself to dinner at South Beach Cafe and/or the movie Epiphany with Club members, family, and friends. Highly recommended by Club member Peter Lagarias, Epiphany tells the story of a young girl trying to connect with her father in a Greek sponge diving town in Florida. Please register for the dinner and purchase your movie tickets in advance.

Dr. Elisa Stephens, president of the Academy of Art University, will speak about the history of the university and the impact of art on our society. She will show examples of student art and discuss what opportunities are available to artists in San Francisco.
