The People of Action Educational Series held its third offering on May 14, 2020 in this new, Zoom-based opportunity for learning. Anita Stangl was the speaker of the day on the topic of Local Clubs and Rotary International.
With the continued shelter-in-place orders and restrictions on large social gatherings, the Club has shifted in recent weeks to an online, virtual meeting format using the popular “Zoom” platform. Logging onto the meetings is simple and can be done from any mobile device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) or a desktop computer. Zoom allows you to utilize your device’s camera (if equipped), or you can simply use “AUDIO ONLY”. In addition, toll-free numbers are available which allow you to simply call in to the meeting using your phone and essentially be in “conference call” mode.
President Casey Blair (Financial Services: Private Trading | KCB Trading, LLC) called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM. 49 members participated on this Zoom meeting.
John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates) made a brief presentation on behalf of the Rotary Climate Action Team (“RCAT”). He noted that the media has been full of photographs and commentary recently showing the very positive environmental impacts of the COVID-19 shutdown. He presented several photographs showing wildlife roaming our cities, clean(er) air in major metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to Beijing, and fish returning to the waters of Venice. Hopefully, we have learned how much we impact our environment, and how altering our behavior can positively impact our environment. RCAT will be sponsoring a number of educational programs in the coming months. Stay tuned and get involved.
