July 2020 Board Highlights
ROTARY CLUB OF SAN FRANCISCO
President JT Forbus called his first Board meeting via Zoom to order at 4 p.m. on July 28, 2020. The entire Board was present. Also in attendance was past president Rhonda Poppen. President JT welcomed everyone to a new Rotary year with the Four-Way Test and emphasized the high level of communication at these meetings.

The Board reviewed the upcoming events in the Club as listed on today’s Board agenda.

E-MEETING HIGHLIGHTS September 1, 2020: Kerri Murray, Global Displacement and the Importance of Shelter in Mitigating the Spread of COVID-19
President JT Harold Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) celebrated the 35th anniversary today of the finding of the wreck of the Titanic on September 1, 1985. He led us virtually to the dining room in the Titanic and showed us the menus. President JT welcomed Rotarian Kerri Murray (also today's guest speaker), Rotarian Bill Tobin, prospective members Liam Sheridan and Sharonda Grant, and all members of our Club in attendance.

John King, The San Francisco Chronicle's urban design critic since 2001, surveys the landscape of shared streets and dining parklets, and the concerns that they represent, and speculates on what changes might come next in San Francisco. Advanced registration required. SERVICE PROJECT September 15, 2020: Diaper Bag Assembly for Homeless Prenatal Program
Join us at this service opportunity to stuff diaper bags and organize diapers and wipes for giveaway to clients of the Homeless Prenatal Program. We will meet at an open-air warehouse to allow social distancing while stuffing the bags and organizing the goods. Participation is limited to NINE people, so sign up early.
 
ROTARY CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK September  17, 2020: The Climate Crisis:  Meeting the Moment
Dr. Andrew Gunther, Ph.D., an environmental scientist and a climate change educator, will reveal the surprising history of climate science, discuss the critical events leading to the current climate emergency and offer vivid illustrations of some of our most hopeful solutions - many of which are already underway. SERVICE PROJECT September 19, 2020: Rotary Meadow Restoration
Come and enjoy nature, fresh air, and fellowship while helping Sutro Stewards weed and restore Rotary Meadow - a garden of native plants our Club planted at the summit of Mount Sutro in 2004. Participation is limited to a maximum of 10 members of our Club. Advanced registration is required.
 
SERVICE PROJECT September 21, 2020:  Delivering Meals for The Arc San Francisco
Drivers needed to pick up pre-packaged meals at The Arc San Francisco and deliver to individual residences of Arc participants who are experiencing food insecurity. Exact directions will be provided when you pick up the meals. Hand delivery of meals must occur between 4 PM and 5:30 PM in advance of the Monday Night Dinner Club with Friends Like Me via Zoom to be held on the first and third Monday of each month.
 
E-MEETING September 22, 2020: Nancy Cushen White and Demystifying Dyslexia
English spelling isn’t crazy! Nancy Cushen White, Ed.D., will present her work and research in dyslexia, a learning disorder that causes difficulty in reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words. Advanced registration required. SERVICE PROJECT September 26, 2020: Beach Clean-up
Rotary International has a seventh area of focus: supporting the environment. In response, our Club is holding a beach clean-up on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Pick your favorite beach, schedule an hour or more of clean-up, and report your results using a free app. 
 
DISTRICT 5150 October 9, 2020: Blood Drive
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a shortage of blood donations. Rotary District 5150 is holding a districtwide blood drive to help meet the demand for blood. For everyone's safety, please select the information link below and read all the information. Please donate if you can.
