2019 Super Bowl Pool: The Rotary Foundation
The Super Bowl Pool is our Club’s biggest annual drive to raise funds for The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International (TRF), whose mission is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Every Rotarian around the world is asked to donate to TRF every year. Super Bowl Pool winners receive a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Welcome to the Club Gathering
On the evening of January 8, 2019, Deborah Wakefield hosted a “Welcome to the Club” party at her spacious, early 20th century-styled apartment in Pacific Heights. Her lovely home put everyone in good spirits. Conversation among the 35+ new and prospective members was lively and grew more animated as the first hour of the cocktail party progressed. We enjoyed excellent wine and lots of good appetizers.

January 2019 Membership Corner
Membership Contest:  On January 22, the winner of Membership’s “Big Island Is Calling” contest was revealed. The award went to the person who introduced the most new members to the Rotary Club of San Francisco between July 1 and December 31, 2018. The winner by a landslide was Marti Sullivan, who introduced five new people into the Club. She invited Catholic Charities to become a Corporate Member with five designees.  Marti receives the week-long stay in Kona Hawaii, courtesy of Harold Hoogasian. Congratulations, Marti, on your fine efforts in receiving this prize.

ROTARY LUNCHEON February 5, 2019: Barbara Engdahl, Being an Activated Patient
Barbara Engdahl, a retired medical social worker with over 40 years of experience, will speak about how to become an activated patient who is involved in decisions regarding your own medical care, asking for the treatment you want and refusing what you don’t want.
 
SOCIAL EVENT February 6, 2019: Rotary Night at the Warriors Game
Come mingle with Rotarians across the Bay while cheering on our Golden State Warriors as they play the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Oracle Arena in Oakland. Game starts at 7:30 PM. Tickets must be purchased by 6 PM on Monday, January 28, 2019. Ten dollars from each ticket will be donated back to Rotary.
 
ROTARY LUNCHEON February 12, 2019: Emergency Services Day
This is the day when we honor outstanding representatives of the public safety departments we depend on every day: Police, Fire, Sheriff, and Coast Guard. Meet the honorees and their loved ones, and hear their amazing stories of heroism and dedication told by the top brass of each department.
 
We can only guarantee seating for those who registered in advance. This event will begin at noon. Please arrive early enough to be seated by noon.
 
SERVICE PROJECT February 16, 2019: Rotary Meadow Restoration
Get a little muddy and help Sutro Stewards weed and restore Rotary Meadow - a garden of native plants our Club planted at the summit of Mount Sutro in 2004. Friends and family (including children ten and older) are welcome. After all the work is done, we'll enjoy pizza, beer, and fellowship.
 
ROTARY LUNCHEON February 19, 2019: Arlie Hochschild, Crossing the Political Divide
Arlie Hochschild, Professor Emerita at UC Berkeley, will discuss her experience getting to know conservative Republicans in Louisiana. She will share what she learned about how America can heal the growing partisan gap.
 
INTERACT February 22, 2019: New Interact Club Charter
Please join us at the Academy of Art University Automobile Museum to celebrate the chartering of San Francisco’s newest high school Interact club formed at Saint Ignatius College Preparatory. This club is co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Francisco and the Rotary Club of San Francisco West. Come out and show your support for this club and meet the students of Saint Ignatius. Food and beverage will be provided. Please RSVP by February 20, 2019.
 
SOCIAL EVENT February 26, 2019: Let's Go Bowling

SERVICE PROJECT March 2, 2019: Volunteer for RotaCare
Come and volunteer for a 2-hour shift at the Spring Fun, Health, and Safety Fair on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Serramonte Shopping Center in Daly City from 10AM - 2PM. This opportunity provides the chance to meet community members and share information about the RotaCare Services in the Bay Area.
