Our Club recently distributed over 300+ dictionaries with TogetherSF to low-income, poverty-stricken neighborhoods, such as the Tenderloin in San Francisco. Today (Saturday, February 20, 2021), however, our project, led once again by project leader Maureen O’Shea, addressed food insecurity by providing boxes of nutritious food to ten churches to feed over 800 families in need. It was a cool and damp beginning but at the end of the morning, over 14 pallets of food were loaded onto five U-Haul trucks and three cars to provide nourishing meals to ten churches located in the Bayview Hunter’s Point area of the City. The boxes of food contained pre-packaged meats, dairy, vegetables and other nourishing grocery items to help sustain a family for a week. Each box weighed about 15 pounds to 25 pounds and through an assembly line was packed into these U-Haul vehicles for distribution. We were pumped, tired, but energized knowing the difference we were making in the lives of others. |
