Club Member Jessica Hansen will talk about what sort of travel is possible and responsible now, and what practices and learnings we want to carry forward with us when the pandemic is over.

In addition to being Executive Director at Alliance for Smiles, Jessica is also a Senior Strategist at the Impact Travel Alliance, a global nonprofit aimed at improving the world through travel. In her 20 years of international aid work for organizations like the UN, Kiva, Mercy Corps, the IRC/Women's Refugee Commission, and Doctors Without Borders, Jessica has served as a bridge between the international aid world and the travel industry to help drive a deeper understanding of the true impact of travel on communities, environments, and economies, so that we can all better mitigate the negative impact of travel and learn to wield it as a tool for good.

Jessica designed the social impact programs of two Bay Area tech companies, Lyft & Twilio, and launched the international award winning program, Kiva U, featured in Chelsea Clinton’s book, It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going! She moved to San Francisco eight years ago from a rural village in Kenya, and though she has lived and worked across six continents, her fieldwork has been focused primarily in East and Central Africa and Southeast Asia and centered on protecting refugee women and children, ending human trafficking, and increasing access to education, finance, and healthcare.

This is a regular membership meeting of The Rotary Club of San Francisco, open to all Rotarians, visiting Rotarians, prospective members, and guests. The meeting is free, but you must register here to get the link
