E-MEETING: An Overview of African American Music

Dr. Oral Moses, Professor Emeritus of Voice and Music Literature at Kennesaw State University near Atlanta, GA, will provide an overview of African American music, including the Negro spiritual, the Blues, jazz, gospel, and popular music. He will introduce us to well-known artists of their day who have become historical figures in the development of this music. And he will provide some short musical selections.
Born in South Carolina, he was a member of the famed Fisk Jubilee singers while attending Fisk University. He earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan. He is a frequent guest lecturer and clinician on the Negro Spiritual and presenter at Gospel Music workshops and conferences.
Dr. Moses has recorded several CDs of art songs and spirituals by African-American composers, including Spirituals in Zion, a collection of spirituals he recorded in the historic Zion Baptist Church built in 1861 by enslaved African Americans; Oral Moses Sings...Songs of America; Extreme Spirituals; Come Down Angels and Trouble the Water; and others.
