Reverend Glenda HopeReverend Glenda Hope will speak to us about women transitioning out of prostitution.

Known as the Saint of the Tenderloin, Glenda Hope, a Presbyterian minister, has been known for decades of service to the poorest neighborhoods in the City. In response to a series of brutal murders and assaults upon prostituted women in the mid-1990s, she worked with Sister Rosina Conrorro of the sisters of Presentation, an order of Nuns also focusing on society’s discarded, to found Safe House, a safe place for women transitioning out of prostitution.

Long before “trafficking” became a media issue, Rev. Hope had been reaching out to marginalized women on the street. Since its founding, Safe House has served over 350 women and successfully created a healing space that addresses gender-specific trauma, homelessness, and substance abuse. The women Safe House has served and continue to serve are a testament to the possibilities of overcoming obstacles and making major changes in their lives.

This is a regular membership meeting of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, open to all Rotarians, visiting Rotarians, prospective members, and guests.

For in-person attendees: The cost for in-person registration will remain $45 if you register early until 11:59 AM on Friday, December 2, 2022. When the clock strikes noon on Friday, December 2, 2022, the price will go up to $60. If you show up at the door on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 as a walk-in, you will be charged $60. Please note that once Past President Mary Liu provides the headcount to the Hotel Nikko on the Friday before our Tuesday meeting, we will be billed for that count regardless of whether you show or not.
