President JT Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) celebrated Mardi Gras 2021. Due to the pandemic, there was no parade, but we did get to meet virtually at San Francisco's Painted Ladies.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
In today's audience were Jeff Lerner, Dan Evenhouse, Carmel Finnerty, Moustafa Harfoush, and Blake Poppen.
President JT posed these two questions:  What is your favorite song? and What is your favorite music video? He invited responses on the Chat.
Jessica HansenNew Vice President of International Service
President JT announced that Jessica Hansen (Nonprofit Management | Alliance for Smiles) had been appointed Vice President of International Service. The audience applauded and welcomed Jessica to her new role.
A Moment with some Past, Present and Future Club Presidents
As our nation celebrated Presidents' Day 2021 just the day before, President JT invited some past and the future Club Presidents to share a moment. Participating were David Dye 2016-2017 (Management Consulting | Retired), John Mathers 2017-2018 (Management Consulting | eVo Associates), Rhonda Poppen 2018-2019 (Grant Writing | GRANTdog), Casey Blair 2019-2020 (Financial Services: Private Trading | KCB Trading, LLC), President JT 2020-2021, Mary Liu 2021-2022 (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group | Vanguard Properties), and Christopher Wiseman 2022-2023 (Event Planning | Glaucoma Research Foundation).
Your Rotary Moment
The audience watched Michael Angelo Caruso's video entitled "13 Ways to Kill Your Rotary Club". Then, everyone joined a breakout room to discuss ways to promote and grow our Club.
Rick HarrellToday's Speaker
Scott Plakun (Management Consulting | The Plakun Group) introduced today's speaker, Rick Harrell (Arts Therapy | Heroes' Voices). Rick is a member of our Club and the Director of Heroes’ Voices. He has spent over 25 years teaching, creating musical events and providing performance opportunities for singers on three continents at many institutions. Rick shared some video clips showing how music elevated the mood of humans and in two cases, even brought people back to life. The video showing the effect of music on a patient with Parkinsonian gait was amazing; the patient while listening to music was able to walk to the beat of the music, sing along, and even dance. President JT thanked Rick and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in his name.
