With the emergence of Kickstarter and Indiegogo as household names over the past several years, most everyone has at least heard of crowdfunding as a new way to attract financial support for new products, ideas, and causes. In 2015 alone, crowdfunding raised a whopping $34 billion globally across all industries and sectors. In this presentation, club member Lynn Luckow offers us an insider's look into crowdfunding for U.S. based 501c3 nonprofit organizations - and how it is expanding the donor pool and democratizing philanthropy.

Lynn's presentation will include the introduction of a crowdfunding project to be piloted by our club in early February, 2017.

Lynn, a social entrepreneur and four-time CEO, is currently Founder & CEO of LikeMinded.org, a crowdfunding site for nonprofit and civic leaders wanting to garner financial and volunteer support for public benefit projects.

Prior to LikeMinded, he served as President & CEO of Craigslist Foundation, of Northern California Grantmakers, and of Jossey-Bass Publishers. An expert on leadership, strategy, and governance, he has served on or consulted to over 50 nonprofit boards, including chairing the board of San Francisco’s Project Open Hand, and the national boards of Chanticleer, the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, and National 4-H Council, for which he was honored as the nation’s top nonprofit board chairman in 2000 by the National Assembly of Health and Human Service Organizations.

Lynn currently serves on the national board of the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, the international board of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, on the advisory boards of the Tobias Center for Leadership Excellence at Indiana University, Noyce Leadership Institute, Project Open Hand, and World Arts West, and on the Friends of Smuin Ballet.

Lynn earned a B.A. in German, English, and creative writing with honors at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks in 1971 where he was a member of Delta Upsilon, a M.S. in Higher Education Administration/College Student Personnel with honors at Indiana University, Bloomington in 1974, and pursued advanced education in organizational psychology and leadership at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara. Lynn has received three honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, and Fielding Graduate University.
