City College San Francisco is the first Community College to provide free access to all residents of its District. After a brief history of tuition-free access to public education, including the most recent San Francisco legislation, Brigitte will focus on the impact of Free City College on residents of San Francisco, examining who benefits and why this access is particularly important in 2017. She will also review current efforts by Community Colleges across the country to provide free access.

Brigitte Davila is currently in her first term as a Trustee for City College San Francisco and serves as the Vice President of the Board. She is dedicated to the quest for affordable, accessible, and quality higher education for all Californians. At the same time, Brigitte is also a Professor in the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where her area of focus is public policy, with an emphasis on community activism. As Program Director of the Latina/Latino Studies Community Service Learning Program, Brigitte has the opportunity to work closely with community-based organizations actively supporting marginalized populations in San Francisco. She served on the Executive Board of the SFSU Academic Senate and as a Higher Education Representative to the statewide California Teachers Association.

Brigitte received a B.A. in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley, and a J.D. at Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley. She has lived in (and loves) the Bay Area for the last 40 years.
