Captain Joseph P. McFadden, Commanding Officer of the Ingleside Police Station, will discuss his work and expertise in combating human trafficking in the Bay Area. He will also discuss current events regarding policing of the homeless as well as some of the concerns (and solutions) that the SFPD have regarding recent protests over what is considered to be the proper use of force.

Joseph McFadden is a native San Franciscan, one of ten children raised in the Noe Valley district of SF. He attended Saint Ignatius College Preparatory and Saint Mary’s College of California where he graduated with a BA degree in Psychology while taking courses in Criminal Justice. He joined the San Francisco Police Department in 1989 and settled down to raise his two children in the Sunset District of SF. He worked patrol and undercover details in the streets of the Northern, Taraval, Ingleside, and Mission Districts before joining the SWAT team. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1996 and ran undercover operations in the Tenderloin District before being assigned to the Domestic Violence Response Unit (DVRU).

Joe worked as an Inspector at the DVRU for 9 years and was transferred to the Management Control /Internal Affairs unit in 2005. He was the first Sergeant/Inspector assigned to investigate and coordinate Officer Involved Shooting incidents. Promoted to Lieutenant in 2009, Joe became the first coordinator of the Bayview Station Investigations Team. He continued his duties as an investigative supervising Lieutenant at the Homeland Security and the (CSI) Crime Scene Investigations Units.

He was promoted to Captain in 2012 and was selected to head the Major Crimes Unit, which included Homicide, Narcotics, Gang Task Force, Robbery and the Violence Reduction Team. In January of 2014, Captain McFadden was assigned to the Special Victims Unit, which investigates Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Human Trafficking, Elder Abuse, Child Abuse, Stalking, Missing Persons, Fraud, Psyche Liaison and Internet Crimes Against Children.
