Rotarians and guests met on September 30, 2021 to tour the Mission District murals hosted by the Precita Eyes Muralists Association (the Association). The Association was founded in 1977, originally as a community muralist workshop. It now supports nearly 100 murals in the Mission, many of which are in Balmy Alley. Balmy Alley homeowners have allowed muralists to beautify the privately owned passageway, and murals are occasionally refurbished and refreshed in collaboration with the original artist(s) and homeowner. The Association's mission is to support Chicano muralism’s original objective: to create public art that authentically represents a community’s history and culture.
