Dr. Elisa Stephens, president of the Academy of Art University, will speak about the history of the university and the impact of art on our society. She will show examples of student art and discuss what opportunities are available to artists in San Francisco. 

Dr. Stephens became president of the Academy of Art University in 1992. She is the third generation in her family to lead the University since its founding by her grandparents in 1929. Under her leadership, the Academy of Art University has become the largest accredited private university of art and design in the United States with over 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students on a unique urban campus in downtown San Francisco and throughout the world online. Dr. Stephens pioneered the creation of online education programs in art and design and expanded the curriculum to stay on the leading edge of new technologies and industry trends. She actively supports a wide spectrum of community outreach programs and makes it possible for students from the Academy of Art University to contribute their artistic and community efforts for maximum impact. 

Dr. Stephens is a Smithsonian National Board Alumni Member and served on the Smithsonian Institution National Board from 2014-2017. She is a member of the Prince of Wales Foundation, Young Presidents Organization Gold, Vistage International, Council on Competitiveness, Committee on Jobs, San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, Belizean Grove, San Francisco City Club, Metropolitan Club and the San Francisco Opera Guild. Dr. Stephens received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Vassar College and a JD from the University of San Francisco. She a member of the California Bar Association. She also completed the Foundations curriculum at the Academy of Art University.

This is a regular membership meeting of The Rotary Club of San Francisco, open to all Rotarians, visiting Rotarians, prospective members, and guests.

Each luncheon ticket includes a three-course lunch. Tickets are $40 each; $35 for Club members who register online in advance (online registration closes at 5PM the day before the meeting). Payment by credit card or check is preferred. Tickets available for purchase only at the door.
