Every October, the roar from the jets as the Blue Angels zip through San Francisco's sky is an unmistakable reminder that Fleet Week has arrived. Lewis Loeven, Executive Director of the San Francisco Fleet Week Association, will discuss the 2019 San Francisco Fleet Week and how its innovative programs help create a better San Francisco.

In addition to the magnificent feats of the Blue Angels, Fleet Week brings to San Francisco over a thousand visiting sailors and marines enjoying a liberty call. Developed with three organizing principles: Troops, Community and Humanitarianism, the non-profit Fleet Week Association operates year-round providing programming through its Center for Humanitarian Assistance (The Center). The Center was created to develop and manage humanitarian assistance and disaster response training and education programs. These programs provide valuable opportunities for state and local emergency response agencies and our military to build relationships prior to devastating events like an earthquake and humanitarian crises.

Lewis Loeven serves as the Executive Director of the San Francisco Fleet Week Association. In this role, he also founded and serves as Executive Director of The Center. He is responsible for the creation and execution of all programming for both San Francisco Fleet Week and for The Center. Mr. Loeven also is the Chief Executive Officer at Loeven Group International, a San Francisco-based consulting firm specializing in wireless telecommunications infrastructure development, as well as government affairs, primarily representing technology and telecommunications companies. He served in the administrations of San Francisco Mayors Willie Brown and Gavin Newsom as Chief Information Officer and Executive Director of the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Telecommunications and Information Services.

This is a regular membership meeting of The Rotary Club of San Francisco, open to all Rotarians, visiting Rotarians, prospective members, and guests.
